CHIEF BUILDING INSPECTORThe City of Americus is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Chief Building Inspector. The beginning salary is $32,247.00. Responsibilities of this position include serving as a regulatory agent to ensure the safety and welfare of the public by reviewing residential and commercial plans approving building permits, inspections of all new structures, mechanical systems, inspections of existing buildings, enforcing city ordinances, and city and state codes. Requirements include Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field; State license in Construction, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Architecture, or Engineering. Must have or be able to attain ICC certification and Level 1B Soil Erosion certifications from Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission within one year, supplemented by at least (ten) years’ experience or equivalent as an architect, engineer, inspector, contractor, or superintendent or any combination of these, five (5) years of which shall have been in a supervisory role; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
